In September 2007, the House Speaker convened the Work Group to Study Maryland Law regarding Access to Firearms and Sharing of Health Information. The Work Group is to consider whether under current Maryland law educators, health care providers, and law enforcement officials can share critical information about certain persons with mental health problems. These would include individuals who may be a danger to themselves and others. The Work Group also will evaluate current law concerned with information that legitimately can be shared while protecting both the public safety and the privacy of the individual.
