Report to Governor, State Treasurer, Secretary of Health & Mental Hygiene, Prince George's County Executive, Prince George's County Council, Senate Budget & Taxation Committee, Senate Finance Committee, House Appropriations Committee, and House Health & Government Operations Committee due Jan. 13, 2009.

In May 2008, the Prince George's County Hospital Authority was created (Chapter 680, Acts of 2008). The Authority is to establish and implement a bidding process that is fair, open, and competitive to transfer the Prince George's County Health Care System to one or more new owners. First, the Authority immediately is to develop and issue a request for proposals for the sale or transfer of the System to an entity capable of providing health care services. The Authority will assess whether a bidder is able to establish a financially self-sustaining health care system that meets the needs of county residents and adjoining jurisdictions. The Authority will set deadlines for the submission of bids in order to select a successful bidder and reach an agreement to transfer the System to new owners. The proposal agreement is to be presented prior to the beginning of the 2009 session of the General Assembly to the Governor, the State Treasurer, Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene, and specified legislative committees.

Authorization for the Authority continues through May 22, 2010.
